Veeam 8 Active Directory Explorer To The Rescue

Yesterday a customer call me and says that they have accidentally deleted a user from there Active Directory. The user was quite important and had lots of Security and mailbox rights.

unfortunately Active Directory Recycle Bin was not enabled and to be honest as important as the user was no one wanted to restore the entire Active Directory to ge the user back.

The company was using Veeam Backup & Replication 7. So we decided that we could install Veeam Backup & Replication 8 which includes Active Directory object restore.

Now the great thing is that all new restore features work with previous existing¬†backups. It was already 17:00 so we didn’t fancy performing an upgrade as we hadn’t prepped for this.

Simple, we installed Veeam Backup & replication on a clean server, imported the existing backup via share (the import took exactly one and a half mins on the clock) and performed the restore.

Thank you Veeam.
